ESPN says former Tennessee Vols standout landed with perfect team in 2024 NFL Draft
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

ESPN thinks a former Tennessee Vols standout landed with the perfect team in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Vols running back Jaylen Wright, who declared for the draft after a tremendous junior season at Tennessee, was selected by the Miami Dolphins in the fourth round (No. 120 overall) of last month's draft.

And ESPN loves the way Wright will fit into Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel's offense.

From ESPN: Wright joins a crowded running back room, but he has future potential in Mike McDaniel's offense thanks to his explosive speed and pass-catching upside. McDaniel can get Wright to the perimeter on outside zone concepts, or even get him touches by scheming him as a receiving target or using him on fly sweeps.

Wright ran a 4.38-second 40 at the combine, and he had 35 rushes of 10 or more yards last season for the Vols. He has home run ability in a Dolphins offense that prioritizes straight-line speed.

Wright's ability to score every time he touches the ball is obviously a big strength for the former Vol. His elite speed combined with his improved toughness and patience/vision should allow Wright to make an instant impact for Miami this fall.

The Durham, NC native is also above average in pass protection, which should increase the odds of Wright seeing significant playing time for the Dolphins as a rookie.

According to Pro Football Focus, Wright was charged with just three pressures across 58 pass-blocking snaps last season (Wright didn't give up any sacks).

Wright is a terrific all-around player who should thrive in McDaniel's system in Miami.
