Los Angeles Chargers offensive tackle Rashawn Slater will miss the rest of the 2022 season after sustaining a left bicep injury during the Chargers’ loss to Jacksonville on Sunday. Sources have confirmed the news with Gridiron Heroics’ writer Kyron Samuels.

Slater left the game in the third quarter with the injury. The Chargers went on to lose 38-10 at home. Los Angeles also lost Pro-Bowl linebacker Joey Bosa during the game, though it is unconfirmed how long Bosa will be out.

Slater is quarterback Justin Herbert’s blindside left tackle. The athletic, 6-foot-4, 315-pound lineman was taken No. 13 overall in the 2021 draft. He has started all 19 games of his young career.

He played his college football at Northwestern and his father, Reggie Slater, played professional basketball in the NBA.

Slater is the third all-pro player to be out with injury for the Chargers this year. He joins four-time Pro-Bowler Bosa and center, Corey Linsley, as key injured players. Slater and Linsley were 2021 second-team all-pro selections on the line last year.

When Slater was a freshman at Northwestern, he started 12 games at right tackle and picked up All-Freshman Team honors in the Big Ten. He turned the heads of NFL scouts and got on the radar screen early. The next season as a sophomore he landed third-team All-Big Ten honors. The season as a junior, he allowed zero sacks in 11 games.

Slater proved versatile in performing well at both the right and the left tackle positions. That made him even more valuable to NFL teams. He’s considered an exceptionally athletic big man with a high football IQ.
